Re: Tiger ext |
Hi!
I'm the author of Tiger. (You should have emailed me directly; I've only accidentally seen this post.)
Which browser (and version) are you using?If I understand correctly, you say that when you exit your browser, then restart it, your tags are gone.
Right now I can think of only one cause: Perhaps you have some "privacy" extension installed that automatically and indiscriminately wipes out the browser's storage when you exit. There are quite a few paranoid extensions of this kind.
Go to your browser's extensions page (e.g., in Firefox it's under "Tools / Add-ons") and disable anything that looks suspicious.
Once I know which browser you use, I'll check it out to see if it has some aggressive "history" or "cache" setting that could affect Tiger's storage.
(BTW, I've been using Tiger extensively for months, on both Windows and Linux, on three browsers (FF, Opera, Chrome), and haven't encountered this problem. That's why I'm inclined to think it's a 3'rd party extension that's to blame.)
Another thing:
- Try upgrading to the latest version of your browser; maybe yours has bugs.
- Could you [temporarily] try a different browser? Just as a little sanity check.

Re: Tiger ext |
Sorry for not emailing you directly. I just discovered your ext on the forum. I am using Firefox but I am using the 3.5 version because it is required for work. I do not see any addons that should be a problem. I will try in IE to see if that works.

Re: Tiger ext |
I replied to you a couple of seconds ago before I've seen this new reply.
I'm surprised that you're using 3.5. It's considered antique.
While Tiger's hoempage states that it
is compatible with "3.5+", it
may have been an error on my part. I know that it works with 3.6, but I'm not sure about 3.5.
I'll install Firefox 3.5 later today and give you a decisive answer.

(BTW, Tiger can't work with IE. Only with FF, Google's Chrome, Opera.)

Re: Tiger ext |
Hi again!
[I'm re-posting this message; I've accidentally posted it under my other Acrhive.Org identity, which it's tied to my email. But I wrote this message before I knew you were using 3.5.]
Good news: I may have found the problem! You're using Firefox, right? (According to my server's log, only Firefox users accessed
Tiger's homepage recently. (Hmmmm, if you're the one using 3.6, please upgrade, it's quite old.))
Go to: "Tools / Options / Privacy". Under the "History" settings you'll find "Firefox will:", and in the drop down make sure you
DON'T have "Never remember history" selected (nor, for the moment, "Use custom settings").
Change it to "Remember history". Restart the browser, and try using Tiger again.
==
If "Remember history" was already selected, try my previous suggestion, of disabling suspicious extensions.
==
Another possibility: are you surfing in
"Private Browsing" mode? (this can be recognized by having mardi-gras masks as icons for the tabs.) In this mode Firefox saves nothing, and this of course affects Tiger as well.
==
Let me know how it's going.

Re: Tiger ext |
Yes, you are right. I am required to use 3.5 for work though. I see now that IE is not supported. I will see if it will work with 3.5.

Re: Tiger ext |
I tend to believe that you're using 3.6, not 3.5 (Because my server's log shows only visits by 3.6 users; and because I've just installed 3.5 and it refuses outright to install Tiger; If you're indeed using 3.5, let me know and I'll give it a second look).
One thing I know for sure:
Tiger is compatible with 3.6 (and up).I added a new
"Troubleshooting" section to Tiger's homepage; in short:
- Make sure that, under "Tools / Options / Privacy", you have "Firefox will: Remember history".
- Make sure you don't have a suspicious, privacy-related extension installed.
- (Recommended to use at least FF 3.6 (for lack of 3.5 testing on my part).)
I don't have any other ideas right now. Let me know how it's going.

Re: Tiger ext |
You are right LOL. I did change the setting for FF to remember my history. I don't know what the problem is.

Re: Tiger ext |
"I did change the setting for FF to remember my history."
And it didn't solve the problem?
Maybe you have other settings in effect that cause Firefox not to keep the history.
Fortunately, there's an easy way to figure this out:[I'm quoting from the updated troubleshooting section.]
Create a new Firefox
user profile. See instructions
here or
here or
here (youtube). Don't worry, it's easy. The settings for the new profile you create are initially the default, pristine ones. Install the Tiger extension using this profile and see if it works.
